Palm Oil Is Another Healthy Oil

Now that food manufacturers in the U.S. have to label their trans-fat content, some of them are switching to healthier oils like palm and coconut. I am happy to see this change for the better! I hope more grocery store products continue this trend.

Undoubtedly, there will be ignorant people who will cry out that palm oil is an unhealthy saturated fat. Like coconut oil, palm oil has been mislabeled as unhealthy for far too long, when it is actually is a very healthy saturated fat. Both oils have been staples in the diets of tropical people for thousands of years, and have helped people stay lean and healthy for centuries.

Like coconut oil, palm oil is great for baking and frying, and is very stable and solid at room temperature, so it does not require hydrogenation and contains no trans fatty acids. (Trans fat is the bad stuff that you want to avoid like the plague!) According to authors and researchers Sally Fallon and Mary G. Enig, PhD, of the Weston A. Price Foundation, “palm oil is a stable, healthy, natural fat composed of saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids.” (http://www.westonaprice.org)

Palm oil is the second most used dietary oil in the world, behind soy oil, and much healthier for you than soy oil. It comes from a different palm tree than coconuts– a palm tree in Africa that produces small fruits that contain the palm oil. Palm oil is redish orange colored in it’s natural (unprocessed) state and a rich source of carotenes and and one of the best sources of vitamin E.

Unprocessed palm oil does have a bit of a strong taste that (for Americans) takes a little getting used to. (I use it when I cook fish, because my family doesn’t notice the small flavor difference with the strong fish flavor covering it.) Processed palm oil has the flavor removed, but so are some of the nutrients. But even then, it is still much better for you than soy or canola oil.

I think it is high time Americans see what most of the rest of the world already knows, that switching to palm and coconut oil is definately a change for the better! So, look for products that contain non-hydrogenated coconut or palm oil, or better yet, make your own healthy snacks with these oils.

Shamanism Healing

Many of the ancient cultures of the world adhered to one or the other form of Shamanism. This is a tribal healing tradition where a Shaman is said to transcend the boundaries of the conscious world and travel to a world unbeknown to the ordinary man. Here, the Shaman converses with spirits and come back with secrets that allows him to heal others, foretell the future, control the weather and even ward off attacks.

The word ‘Saman’ is defined as a technique of ecstasy. A Shaman is a practitioner who is able to enter an altered state of consciousness where he can communicate with the supernatural. He acts as an intermediary between the world of man and the world of Gods and often has the power to descend to the realm of the dead. He leaves his body when he is in trance. This trance is induced by chanting, beating of the drum or passionate dancing. In the more unsophisticated cultures, Shamans even used to take to fasting, ingesting psychotropic drugs or even undergo torture to achieve the trance.

As seen from the practices, Shamanism is based on the principle that the world is divided into 2 distinct parts – that visible to the ordinary man, and that visible only to the man with powers. In the second part, there is a miraculous world populated by the spirits who influence the world of the living and who are always willing to help. The Shaman acts as a link between the two worlds and works for the benefit of his society. Shamans are therefore experts employed by animistic societies.

Healing is the most important function of the Shaman followed by prophecy. Shamanism, in the larger sense of the word, is thus perhaps the oldest form of healing. It is a form of religious medicine that originated more than 25,000 years ago. The healing practices of most of the ancient cultures stem from a shamanic tradition.

The Shaman is often credited with magical healing powers and is crowned as the religious or spiritual head of a tribe. He is called upon to treat the sick and to drive away demons. It is important to remember that in most ancient cultures, sickness was considered to be the result of demoniac forces acting on the individual. The difference between the ordinary man and the Shaman is that while the man is possessed by spirits, the Shaman controls the spirits.

All this may lead one to believe that Shamanism is an occult practice that is buried in the past and that it has no significance to the modern man. But Shamanism is still practiced all over the world, although it has evolved into different forms. Native Americans are said to perform Soul Flights to heal. In Tibet, the Shamans use a drum to help them in soul retrieval. In Kerala, Shamans are closely tied to the temple and use amulets and music to contact the spirits of the nether world. Shamans in Africa often use hallucinogenic plans to induce trance.

Shamanism has found a place in modern day healing because of the importance it places on the soul, mind and spirit. Shamanic healing includes relief from pain, anxiety, stress and emotional healing. It is believed that there is an inner Shaman in everyone – a force that can be released if one is able o concentrate hard enough. Unleashing the power of this inner Shaman will help cure maladies that afflict us.

Osteopathy Is Different To Chiropractic Healing

Osteopathy is a system of healthcare based on the belief that disease is the direct result of the relationship between physiological function and anatomical structure. In osteopathy, function and structure are interdependent. A healthy musculoskeletal system plays a pivotal role in recovery and disease prevention. ‘Structure governs function’ – this is the tenet of osteopathy. By structure, this means muscles, ligaments, bones, organs and fascia.

The credit for initiating this system of healing is given to Andrew Taylor Still, who started this treatment at the end of the American Civil War. According to Still, disease happens when the bones are out of place thus disrupting the flow of the blood or hampering the flow of nervous impulses. He therefore concluded that diseases can be cured by manipulating the bones, which in turn, helps to restore the flow.

This system has much in common with Chiropractic techniques where the correct alignment of bones is given the utmost emphasis. Originally Osteopathy used strictly manipulative techniques for correcting abnormalities. However, over the past years, Osteopathy has embraced all aspects of modern medicine including drugs and corrective surgery.

Doctors who practice Osteopathy know how important it is to have a proper and correct understanding of the exact position and correct function of each of the structure in the body. Those who practice Osteopathy look for abnormalities in the working relationship within and between the various structures. According to these physicians, the physical integrity of the entire musculoskeletal system is one of the most important factors that contribute to good health.

Osteopathy has a lot in common with orthodox medicine as well. However, Osteopathic doctors are not merely bone-specialists. Instead, they are grandmasters in the ‘biomechanics of the human machine’. The way in which they approach disease and carry out treatment is therefore completely different from orthodox medicine.

The holistic approach to healing aims to take advantage of the body’s ability to heal itself. Osteopaths believe that health, not disease, is the natural heritage of every living thing. They focus all their attention on tracing any changes in function that have taken place within the structures. Within certain limits, the human body, like every other organism, has the ability to repair and correct itself. If given enough ‘support’, it can create its own remedies. The ‘support’ to be given includes:

– A balanced diet
– Good circulation
– Positive attitude
– A pollution free environment.

This self-healing is the backbone and sustaining principle behind all the applications of Osteopathy. According to these doctors, disease basically originates from within the individual himself. So, their main focus is the patient and not the micro-organism that invades his body. If the disease has reached a stage where the micro-organism has changed the structure beyond the point of no-return, Osteopathy tries to help the person function as best as he can.

Osteopathy differs to chiropractors in that the therapist uses massage during a treatment session to help the muscles retain the memory of the manipulation done to the bones and hence restore the flow of nerve impulses through the body to promote healing.

Osteopathy relies on various techniques that are combined with postural, dietary and occupational advice. Counseling patients who are recovering from illness and injury and those who are under excruciating pain is also a very useful part of this healing technique. Osteopathy also allows the use of invasive therapies when all else fails.

Organic Juices for Constipation

Organic fresh made juices have cleansing and laxative action, which will help you eliminate constipation. Taken regularly they will help you have daily bowel movements.

Organic juices contain loads of mineral, bioflavonoids, vitamins, enzymes, antioxidants, and other nutrients. Citric fruits have citric acid and the more tart they are the more acid they have.

Fresh juice is a fast way to get all types of nutrients into the blood quickly. As juice nutrients get into your blood, they suck out toxics and build up tissues. In your colon they destroy bad bacteria, feed wall tissue, pull out toxins, and have laxative action.

Even though juices provide helpful action throughout the body, it is best to limit their use and drink them in larger quantities only when trying to accomplish certain health benefits.

If you use natural foods with laxative effects, their laxative effect diminishes after long-term use.

If you have diabetes or adrenal fatigue, limit your use of fruits and juices when you first wake up in the morning. However, exercise in the morning will help you tolerate drinking some juices in the morning

When juicing fruits and vegetables, the more fiber that is left with the juice the better results you will get with your constipation.

It is always best to use fresh juices, but as a last resort using packaged juices will be better than not drinking anything.

Apples and Apple Juice

Apples are good for eliminating constipation because they are high in pectin, a soluble fiber, have many minerals, and contain sorbitol – a natural sugar, which stimulates peristaltic action. Pectin helps to detoxify the intestines and promote regular bowel movements.

The fiber in apples adds weight and bulk to your fecal matter and helps draw water from your colon into the fecal matter keeping the stool from becoming hard and thus preventing constipation.

Apples are one of best fruits to eat because they are high in minerals, which provide alkaline electrolytes to your body. What electrolytes do is neutralize acids that are created during illness, anxiety, anger, exercising, breathing pollution, and improper eating. Body acid is a major reason we get deadly diseases as we age

Make eating apples or drinking fresh apple juice a daily habit. They are also effective in liver and gallbladder problems. .

Here’s what to do.

Use crisp and hard apples such as granny smith, Fuji, or gala apples for juicing.

Drink three glass of apple juice during the day – morning, noon, and evening. In combination with drinking fresh apple juice, eat 3-4 apples each day to get fiber. The combination of eating and drinking apples juice will activate your colon to start moving stagnant matter.

One-day apple and apple juice fast

You can also do a one-day or two-day apple and apple juice fast by, eating 3-4 apples during the day. Drink apples juice every two hours. Don’t eat anything until the next morning. Then, start changing your eating habits as listed in some of my other articles.

Organic Essential Oils

Essential oils are the pure essence of a plant or herb. However, it is difficult to rule out the presence of pesticides in the so-called pure essential oil, particularly in the age where pesticides form an important constituent of farming. A conclusion thus follows that the essential oil derived from such raw materials may not be as effective for ones purpose; resulting into side effects at times. The craze for organic essential oils springs from the concern for ones safety while using essential oils.

Organic essential oils are manufactured from plants and herbs that have been grown without pesticides. Organic farming coexists with the natural systems rather than dominating them. In the process, the farmer is able to sustain and build soil fertility, reduces pollution and overall becomes a crusader to protect environment.

Pesticides are not the only component that the organic essential oil must be rid of. The farmers must take steps to preserve the soil quality of the land. This will result into enzyme-rich and therapeutically viable raw materials. Using these techniques ensures that the organic essential oil is alive and active.

If compared to the essential oils derived from non-organic elements, one will find that the organic essential oils outscore them. The quality of organic essential oils taken as a whole, curative benefits and aroma are always superior to the non-organic oils.

Thanks to the several certifying agencies, buyers can escape the unscrupulous activities that are going on in this industry. One can easily be duped into taking a non-organic essential oil in place of the organic essential oil. ECOCERT International certified organic essential oils are considered of a good quality through out the world. Soil Association in the UK certifies organically manufactured essential oils.

However, certification of a few oils is difficult. An example of this is the Boswellia tree resin, which is the raw material for deriving frankincense essential oil. It is difficult to certify the essential oil derived from this because it is grown only in wild conditions. In such cases, if the manufacturer is able to source raw material from the actual location, it will be deemed to be grown without pesticides or insecticides.

When shopping for organic essential oils, the buyer must look for terms such as 100% natural or 100% biodegradable. Only the manufacturers of organic essential oils can use the terms or phrases. Another thing to look for when shopping for organic essential oils is its ingredients. If the list of ingredients reveals fragrance oils, artificial colors or synthetics, it is not organic essential oil.

Organic essential oils are available in sizes of 5ml, 10ml and 15ml. Expensive oils come in sizes of 2ml and 1 dram. It is very important to store essential oils in good conditions. Rather than using clear glass bottles, it will be advisable to use dark amber or cobalt blue bottles. These bottles do not allow sunlight to pass through and thus prevent deterioration of organic essential oils. To prevent temperature fluctuations and sunlight to contaminate the oils, the user can purchase or get special wooden boxes constructed to store the essential oils.

Cost of organic oils is more. This is because the cost of producing via organic means is more. However, an essential oil with little or no therapeutic value (for which the buyer chiefly purchases the oil) is of no use. All good things come at a price. The same applies to organic essential oils too. Buyers thus must not shy away from paying a small premium to get the pure essential oils.

No Worries On Medicine Costs With Canadian Drug Stores

No Worries On Medicine Costs With Canadian Drug Stores

If they are not sweating it out over mortgage, many Americans have to deal with the costs of medicine. They land in the hospital or see a doctor and are then slapped with a prescription for medicine that they have to maintain for the long term.

Of course, any way that they can save money is always welcome. But drug stores based in the United States often have higher prices, regardless if they are found online or in an offline location. The cheaper alternative to medicines is just found in Canada, that is, at online Canadian drug stores.

Most people think that ordering medicine at a Canada-based location costs more as they would also have to pay for shipping aside from the cost of medicine. The fact is, you can actually save 25 to 50% on medicine costs just by ordering from an online Canadian drug store.

In general, there are five main reasons why drugs are deeply cheaper in Canada than in the United States:

• Since government regulates them, there is a ceiling on how much Canadian pharmaceutical companies can charge for their medicine.

• Since Canada has less strict patent laws, more generic drugs are being manufactured.

• Since the US dollar is stronger than the Canadian dollar, Americans have more purchasing power.

• Taxes are not charged on orders sent outside of Canada.

• Shipping costs are charged at per package per order, not per bottle of drug. You may have several drugs in on order, but you only need to pay one shipping fee. Spouses who place their orders together, and have the same shipping address, are changed only a single shipping fee.

How It Works

To get started, you only need to fill an order with an online Canadian drug store Once this is done, you will need to send the prescription made by your doctor in the United States. A licensed Canadian doctor will then review your patient history and your prescription, and then approve the prescription under his or her Canadian professional license. If the Canadian doctor has any questions or concerns, he or she will get in touch with your or your doctor.

When the Canadian doctor approves your prescription, your order. Whenever possible, the Canadian drugstore substitutes the brand name with US-approved substitutes, unless you or your physician indicates you do not want substitutes.

Apart from popularity, brand name drugs differ very little from their generic counterparts. Their looks may differ, but brand name drugs and generic drugs have the same active ingredients and thus work in exactly the same way. The major difference is the price.

Brand name drugs refer to drugs that were first made by a pharmaceutical company. The company that made Prozac, for example, was the only one allowed to make the drug for years. After a time (around ten years in the United States and five to seven years in Canada) other companies were allowed to make generic versions of that drug.

New Hopes For Stoke Patients

By one year after injury, 85% of patients have a full recovery; patients with symptoms persisting for longer than
one year are classified as suffering from the persistent postconcussive syndrome. Many patients have a full recovery, and the
symptoms of instability go away. Most patients have a full recovery; however, heavy infections can lead to chronic, disabling
disease and even death. Many patients have a full recovery, though 10-20% of patients may have continued instability of the
shoulder after arthroscopic surgery.

Today, cutting-edge robotics technology is revolutionizing how stroke is diagnosed (telemedicine) and treated (robot assisted therapy).
Recent clinical trials have shown that robot-assisted therapy may help stroke patients regain arm movements, even years after a
disabling stroke. A monitor attached to the robot plays a series of video games to encourage patients to extend their arms, with
the assistance of the robot. Robot assisted therapy is only one tool in the arsenal for stroke rehabilitation. They are also assisting
on the frontline to quicken the process of stroke diagnosis.

Providing both patients and their closest family members with knowledge and skills in self-management could potentially provide
benefits similar to recent nurse-led home based intervention heart-failure programmes at a much lower cost. Out-patient
services include stroke clinics providing follow-up care to patients discharged from the in-patient service and also to non-urgent
referred patients. It may be possible to avoid admission to hospital or to reduce the length of stay by providing community support.
However, little research has focused on the experience of the peer providing support.

More and more, patients are requesting care beyond what most consider to be traditional health services.
Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) includes therapies not based on traditional Western medical teachings and may include
acupuncture, chiropractic, homeopathy, diet and lifestyle changes, herbal medicine, and massage therapy, among others. But because
Traditional Oriental medicine works preventitivly it can be incorporated into your daily life as a wellness program, just like
eating healthy, getting regular exercise, having enough sleep and having healthy meaningful relationships.

Developed in China as a traditional chinese medicine to help stroke patients achieve better rehabilitation. NeuroAid is safe and has
very few reported side effects, which have been found to beof minor concern (such as nausea, vomiting or increased thirst). NeuroAid
has shown efficacy for patients who suffered a stroke in the past 6months and have resulting loss of motor function or independence.

Natural Treatments for Anxiety

Natural treatments for anxiety such as meditation and hypnotherapy are gaining in popularity amongst sufferers of common stress as well as more serious anxiety disorders.

While drugs and supplements can promise some effectiveness in treating anxiety, holistic methods can help you to make an overall reduction in stress through long-term lifestyle changes.

Even for those severely stricken with anxiety, remedies such as Xanax and Buspar are meant to treat the symptoms of anxiety, not address the root causes. Xanax and other anti anxiety treatments can also have serious side effects including hallucinations, rashes, mouth sores, yellowing of the skin, dry mouth and headache. In addition, anti stress medication can cause serious addiction and withdrawal symptoms if the dosage is decreased suddenly.

Various natural supplements such as ginseng and valerian have been used successfully as anxiety treatments. For example, ginseng has been shown to have positive effects on anxiety, in addition to cardiovascular health, menopause, physical endurance and diabetes. However, once the substance is no longer ingested, the beneficial effects slowly dissipate. Like prescription drugs, natural supplements fail to address underlying triggers behind anxiety and stress.

It is interesting to note that doctors are increasingly turning to natural treatments for anxiety, in addition to more traditional methods. Studies are beginning to show the physiological effects which occur in the body during holistic practices such as meditation and hypnotherapy. For example, during Transcendental Meditation, a style of meditation founded in the 1950s by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, mental activity is slowed while alertness and clarity remain. Actual physiological changes include slowing of the metabolic rate, increased cerebral blood flow and changes in muscle resistance.

The changes are a direct reaction to physiological changes induced by heightened and continued stress. After Transcendental Meditation, the patient reports feeling relaxed, happy and better able to function both personally and professionally.

Hypnotherapy is another natural treatment for anxiety that is increasingly beginning to be accepted as valid in the medical community. Through guided imagery and positive associations, the patient works with the hypnotist to recognize underlying triggers and causes behind anxiety-ridden behavior. Hypnotherapy has also showed promising success in treating addictive behaviors such as drinking, overeating, smoking and drug use. What makes hypnotherapy so effective is that it cuts directly to the unconscious mind, where fears and phobias are housed. There are also physiological effects which occur during hypnotherapy (lessening of the heart rate, reduction of the stress inducing hormone cortisol etc.) which lessen overall anxiety and stress.

Drugs and supplements can be an instant fix for anxiety and stress and do promise a certain amount of effectiveness and relief. In fact, doctors may prescribe medication as a means of getting some of the more immediate symptoms under control. However, if you are suffering from an anxiety disorder or a heightened stress level, be sure to inquire about natural treatments for anxiety such as meditation and hypnotherapy.

Natural Remedies Your Grandmother Swore By

Remember the days of old when Grandmother strapped a warm mustard pack to our congested chests when we had a cold? Or used a warmed tea bag to rid pink eye, a clove of garlic to stop an earache, or prepared a mixture of chaparral and olive oil as a cure for itchy skin? I do.

Distances between townships, limited funds, and the lack of readily available medical professionals and facilities all dictated that a woman be not only a wife, mother, and housekeeper, but doctor as well. Folklore healing practices, curative uses of herbs, and other medicinal “family secrets” were stealthily guarded and passed down from one generation to the next.

Of course, some of yesteryear’s touted cures were not truly cures at all. Superstition and myth “remedies,” without any practical application, crept into the mix. Little by little and through the years, suspicion as to the validity of any natural, herbal remedy began to take root.

For instance, witch doctor type practices such as hanging herbs that resembled tears around a child’s neck to help him cut teeth. “Reading” tea leaves to foretell future love interests, and assertions like placing certain spices under the pillow would improve memory, prejudiced many toward the genuine curative uses of herbs.

That is why some modern day practitioners regard the medicinal use of herbs as “quackery;” nothing more than old-wives tales. There are, however, a growing number of otherwise conventional medical professionals who acknowledge what Grandmother knew all along. Natural, herbal remedies as a means to maintain good health and cure certain diseases are valid. Nature’s drug store is making a comeback.

And why should that be surprising? After all, we — like plants — are organic. It is the synthetic drugs used today that were formulated to mimic their natural counterparts, and not the other way around. In days of old, there was no other way to treat illness and discomfort, help heal wounds, or cure bodily dysfunctions than with natural means.

It was while living in tune with nature and studying wildlife that early man learned of the medicinal “powers” of herbs. Animals bitten by a poisonous snake survived after chewing snakeroot, a wounded bear rolled in mud to better heal and escape infection, and old, rheumatoid deer eased their misery and made joints more limber by resting under the therapeutic rays of the sun.

Nature’s well worked out plan for good health and freedom from disease is observed in animals. It is people who have strayed from nature’s medicine chest to create man-made remedies — some of which are less effective, costly, and riddled with negative side-effects.

By working with, and not against nature, we increase our chance of a more healthy life, while decreasing our risk of disease and premature bodily limitations and dysfunctions.

A wealth of healing resources is there for the taking, if we but open our eyes to the possibilities available.

To highlight this fact, let’s take a look at the multiple medicinal uses of just one herb, commonly regarded as a noxious or disposable weed.

Sometimes found intercropped with corn and wheat in the Midwest United States, common burdock grows wild and vies for the sun and nutrients of the soil. Though routinely overlooked as a native weed, it nevertheless has the potential to gift the bearer greater health and ease skin afflictions when harvested for its root.

In the herbal world, burdock is unsurpassed as a blood purifier. It is also the “king” of herbs in treating chronic skin problems such as eczema, acne, psoriasis, boils, syphilitic sores, and canker sores.

Make a medicinal tea by bringing 1 quart of water to a boil. Reduce heat. Add 4 teaspoons cut, dried burdock root. Cover and simmer for 7 minutes. Remove from heat and let steep for 2 hours. Drink a minimum of 2 cups a day on an empty stomach, or more if problem persists. This concoction can also be made in a larger quantity and used topically to wash affected skin areas as needed.

Mixed with catnip and made into a tea, burdock root is effective in clearing up stubborn kidney and gallstones. Bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Add 2 tablespoons of chopped or cut fresh or dried burdock root. Reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes. Remove from heat. Add 3 teaspoons chopped or cut fresh or dried catnip leaf, and let steep for 1 ½ hours, then strain.

For each cup, add 1 teaspoon lemon juice and ½ teaspoon pure maple syrup or blackstrap molasses (to sweeten). Drink slowly. Follow with 1 tablespoon of pure virgin olive oil 10 minutes later.

Repeat this regimen 3 times a day. The tea helps to sooth irritated tissues, and helps break up or partially dissolve the stones. The olive oil acts as a lubricant to expel them from the body more easily. Important to the success of this remedy; digest no greasy, fried foods, soft drinks, refined carbohydrates (such as white flour or white sugar products), red meat, or poultry during the course of this treatment.

Well-known lecturer, author and medical anthropologist, John Heinerman, Ph. D., of Salt Lake City, Utah, recommends the following: take the last cup of tea and spoonful of oil at night before retiring. Sleep on the right side, and prop a pillow under the armpit. Heinerman says this posture seems to expedite the removal of the stones from the body.

Burdock root ground to a powder, when combined with dried red clover and dandelion root and packed in gel capsules, can help clear up acne and blemishes. Take two a day — morning and evening.

Besides an aid in clearing problem skin when combined with burdock, red clover is also famous as an alternative cancer treatment, and is a natural blood thinner. Dandelion root was hailed as a miracle cure for warts and liver spot remover by the late Will Greer, who portrayed Grandpa Walton on “The Waltons”. In addition, Britain’s licensed medical herbalist, Dr. David Potterton noted that the high insulin content in dandelion root makes it a good sugar substitute for persons who suffer from diabetes mellitus.

Many herbs have medicinal properties. An infusion made from elder-flower and water makes a mild astringent, and can safely be used for eye baths, while chamomile is excellent for eye compresses for inflammation of the eyelids. Garlic is an excellent natural antibiotic, and immune system builder. Cayenne is beneficial for circulation and stomach ailments. In fact, many of the herbs used for culinary purposes are not only great flavor enhancers, but medicinal as well.

Besides herbs, many vegetables and fruits, especially organic, yield health and medicinal benefits. Celery juice is a natural diuretic and useful for persons with rheumatism or for those who want to lose weight. Cabbage has been shown effective in the fight against duodenal ulcers, and is a good source of calcium for those who must avoid dairy products. Radish is helpful for gall-bladder and liver ailments, and spinach improves the hemoglobin of the blood. Beets are excellent for certain conditions of the liver, and for improving blood hemoglobin.

While undeniably health enhancing, natural or herbal remedies should never be used alongside synthetic or prescription drugs without the prescribing doctor’s knowledge. While grapefruit by itself can be effective in reducing high levels of cholesterol, for instance, it isn’t recommended in combination with certain prescribed medications also meant to lower cholesterol. In fact, many cholesterol-reducing medications warn not to consume grapefruit while taking that medication.

Because many of nature’s offerings do have potent medical and health enhancing properties, become knowledgeable about the benefits and cautions of each. Like any medication, increasing concentrations, doses, or mixing one with another for medicinal purposes could be harmful instead of helpful. And mixing natural/herbal remedies with synthetic/prescription medications is not recommended, unless prescribed by a doctor as an enhancement.

Instead of rebelling against nature, we can become more in tune with the gifts endowed by nature. The same health laws that apply to the animal kingdom also apply to man. We have something valuable to relearn from our wild counterparts. By joining hands with nature and embracing the natural we can enhance our health and increase our longevity.

Natural Remedies for Reflux and Heartburn

A growing number of people suffer the pain and discomfort of heartburn or reflux on a regular basis. It has been estimated that up to twenty percent of the population are affected at least once a week. Acid reflux and heartburn occur when the LES (lower esophageal sphincter) allows the acid content of the stomach to flow back up into the esophagus. The esophagus is a tube like structure that connects the mouth and throat to the stomach. The LES is a valve which naturally protects the delicate esophagus from harmful acids. It is almost like a trapdoor, which opens up to allow the food we eat to enter the gut. Hydrochloric acid is then produced by the body to help break these substances down.

When heartburn or acid reflux strikes it is an indication of the LES temporarily relaxing, or in more serious cases, of it not functioning properly. If a person suffers from more regular or even constant heartburn and reflux, it may be a symptom of a far more serious condition called GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease.) The symptoms of GERD are; heartburn, chest pains (especially at night), regurgitation of foods and liquids, a feeling of ‘sourness’ in the mouth and at times a sore throat and coughing and wheezing. If you suffer from any of the above symptoms on a regular basis, an appointment should be made with your doctor as soon as possible. GERD can lead to severe medical complications and should not be ignored. Pregnancy is often the cause acid indigestion. If you are pregnant, always consult your doctor or obstetrician before taking any heartburn or reflux remedy. Both antacid and herbal treatments can be harmful to an unborn child. If however, you only experience occasional heartburn or acid reflux, there are many natural remedies which can help to ease your symptoms. These include;

  • Aloe Vera Juice
  • Chewable DGL (deglycyrrhizinated licorice)
  • Marshmallow root tea
  • Peppermint tea
  • Aniseed or anise
  • Lavender
  • Digestive enzymes that contain pepsin or betain
  • Papaya digestive enzymes
  • Chicory root
  • Pineapple juice, which contains an enzyme called bromelain (bromelain can also be bought in tablet form)

Taking herbal remedies, rather than antacids, to relieve the symptoms of heartburn or reflux, can be extremely beneficial. Nevertheless, herbal remedies may also have side affects, particularly if you have been prescribed pharmaceutical drugs from your regular doctor. In such cases, a reputable herbalist should always be consulted if any form of medication is being taken. Certified Herbalists can be sourced in your local business directory, or on the internet. Remedies that include herbal teas, aloe vera juice and digestive enzymes are usually found in health stores and are not generally thought to have many side affects. Always speak with a store assistant before you purchase a treatment. They often have a vast knowledge of herbal remedies, as well as their uses and effects. The most common causes of heartburn and reflux are the foods we eat. Food and beverages to avoid include;

  • Spicy foods
  • Citrus fruits and juices
  • Vinegar
  • Garlic
  • Fatty foods
  • Coffee
  • Carbonated drinks (sodas)
  • Tomatoes
  • Garlic
  • Black peppers
  • Chillies (hot and spicy capsicums)
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Fatty foods
  • Foods high in sugar
  • Bread
  • Raw onions

There are several other foods which can cause a reaction. Some people are more sensitive than others and may even have food allergies. If you think you might have an allergy to food, the best course of action is to consult your doctor or a dietician, before you modify your diet. To achieve optimum health, eat a sensible, balanced diet and try not to consume too much food in one sitting. Meals that contain carbohydrates, meat, processed foods, sugar and fats can aggravate the causes of heartburn and reflux. Eat slowly and make sure that you chew each mouthful properly. Undigested food will often create excess acid in the stomach, producing gases that can put pressure on a weakened LES and result in a painful bout of heartburn or reflux. As with all medical conditions, treating the cause rather than the symptom is the most logical way to control the discomfort of acid reflux and heartburn.

Natural Remedies

The body is a wondrous machine and is designed to take massive abuse before it fails.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t always give clear signs of abuse until it’s too late. So many people believe heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, and obesity are just part of the natural aging process. However, it’s our lack of exercise and terrible diet, which accelerates our aging and causes us to fall ill before our time.

Despite progress we always have those among us who believe the “old fashioned” ways or products are better. It has to be said that in some instances they are correct. Sadly, with each passing generation, some of this old fashioned wisdom disappears.

Progress is so contemporary and so closely a part of our daily lives that we sometimes fail to recognize that we, ourselves, may fail to keep up with what is happening. Things that we would have considered very modern because we witnessed their creation only a few years ago may already be “old fashioned” to high school students.

In the medical world, treatment that might have been popular for a disease in 1986 may be completely outmoded in 2006. Even medical discoveries of the 1990’s may be old fashioned today.

However, over the years, and for generation after generation, a great number of home remedies for many illnesses have managed to stay alive. They have been passed down from elders to youngsters in each country throughout the world. Many of them are strikingly similar although they may have originated on separate continents among completely alien peoples.

This area of medicine is commonly called “folk medicine.” Few people will have failed to have come into contact with this term at one time or another. Usually folk medicines are the “old fashioned remedies, the cure that “Grandma used”; the wisdom of the oldster who remembers when “My old friend Betty would have died if they hadn’t used that old remedy! Yes
sir, even the doctor had to admit it worked.”

Periodically there seems to be a revival in folk medicine. We appear to be now experiencing such a time as more people are becoming concerned, not only about the high cost of medicine, but also the increasing discoveries of side effects. Nature has given us many natural remedies, with little or no side effects.

Basically most folk medicine is closely associated with herbs, food, oils, minerals and components found in any household. Techniques and methodology of folk medicine are especially adaptable to home use.

It is not difficult to understand how many of these medicines and treatments originated and why they were popular. Among pioneers and peoples where doctors were few and far between, or nonexistent, medical aids were the products of experience and necessity. People used what they had at hand. Sometimes what they “had at hand” are still used by our most modern medical experts.

Many people accept herbal medications as safe because they are ‘natural’, but this is not necessarily so. Many plants are poisonous, or may have serious side effects or give allergic reactions when taken by susceptible individuals. One such case is bee pollen. Just as you can be allergic to bee stings without knowing it (if you’ve never been stung) so an allergy to bee pollen may also be present. While many herbal concoctions can be useful,

We suggest finding a Homeopathic Doctor that balances the need for medication with a change in lifestyle and diet as a part of your overall game plan to get back on the road to better health.

Natural Medicine And Herbs

Hello folks. Have you ever come down with some ailment just when the local pharmacy is closed? There must be some natural medicine and herbs in the kitchen you can use.

I’m going through my kitchen right now to see what organic body products I can come up with. My eyes are really tired so I cut two slices of fresh cucumber and press over each eye. Boy is that refreshing!

Chamomile in natural herb form or in tea bags is a great natural medicine Once, I suffered from eye secretion. I headed straight for the kitchen and found chamomile as a herbal supplement. I immersed chamomile tea bags in boiling water, let them cool, applied one to each eye, (never use the same tea bag on both eyes so as not to re-infect), and finally gently wiped the secretion brushing from the inner corner of the eye towards the outer . After a couple of applications of this home remedy the secretion was completely cleared up!

Chamomile is also great for removing pus from pimples. Peering into the mirror, my daughter wailed, “Oh, mom, I have this horrible pussy pimple on my face.” No problem. After pressing a chamomile tea bag that had been immersed in boiling water to the pimple a couple of times, voilà, the pimple burst and out came the pus to be wiped away with a ball of sterile cotton batten.

And how’s about avocado? I scoop this home cure and beauty treatment out of its peel, mash it up, and gently rub it on my face and around my fingernails for softness and skin nourishment.

Natural medicines, home cures, and beauty aids are definitely my idea of fun and economical too!

Natural Liver Cleansing Products

The liver is involved in thousands of biochemical mechanisms making it second only to the brain in importance and complexity. Natural health practitioners are also acutely aware of the detrimental effects on the liver of modern living, with its chemicals, excessive fat intake, pesticides, hormones, and stress. This suggests that we as a culture are in need of liver support. You should consider liver support supplementation if you:

• Have a history of a Fatty Liver
• Consume Alcohol
• Consume Tobacco Products
• Have been taking Medications/Drugs
• Are exposed to Environmental Toxins or Chemicals or Second Hand Smoke
• Have a history of Liver or Gall Bladder Problems

Dandelion
Dandelion root enhances bile flow, thus improving conditions such as liver congestion, bile duct inflammation, hepatitis, gallstones, and jaundice. Dandelion increases bile flow by affecting the liver directly to cause an increase in bile production and flow to the gallbladder, and exerting a direct effect on the gallbladder by causing a contraction and release of stored bile. Dandelion’s hepatic tonic effect may be attributable to the high choline content.

Milk Thistle
Milk thistle (Silybum marianum) has been used since Greco-Roman times as an herbal remedy for a variety of ailments, particularly liver problems. Several scientific studies suggest that active substances in milk thistle (particularly silymarin) protect the liver from damage caused by viruses, toxins, alcohol, and certain drugs such as acetaminophen (a common over the counter medication used for headaches and pain; acetaminophen, also called paracetamol, can cause liver damage if taken in large quantities or by people who drink alcohol regularly.)

Many professional herbalists recommend milk thistle extract for the prevention and/or treatment of various liver disorders including viral hepatitis, fatty liver associated with long term alcohol use, and liver damage from drugs and industrial toxins such as carbon tetrachloride.

Natural Home Remedies for Strep Throat

There are many ways of helping the body in dealing with infections. Home remedies for strep throat are various and they include many aspects: diet, natural antiseptics, natural analgesics or natural antibacterial cures. Used appropriately, home remedies for strep throat can speed up the process of healing by fighting bacteria and by stimulating the immune system of the body.

Strep throat can occur to anyone, at any time. Although children and teenagers are the ones who often get strep throat, adults may also be affected by this illness. Strep throat occurs due to infection with group A streptococcus bacteria. This type of bacteria is very contagious and can be easily transmitted through secretions (sneezing, coughing) or physical contact (handshake, touch). Even perfect hygiene can’t prevent strep throat from occurring, as the bacteria that cause the infection are also airborne. In some cases, you can contract the bacteria responsible for strep throat just by standing next to a contaminated person.

The most common symptoms for strep throat are inflammation and swelling of the throat, inflammation and swelling of the tonsils, swelling and tenderness of the lymph glands, difficulty in swallowing, fever, headache, nausea, fatigue, vomiting and diarrhea.

There are home remedies for strep throat that can ease each of these symptoms. However, it is very important to understand that home remedies for strep throat can’t completely replace medical treatments prescribed by a physician. Strep throat is an infection caused by bacteria and therefore needs appropriate treatment that consists of antibiotics. Although there are natural alternatives for medical antibiotics, they are considerably less effective in fighting bacteria on their own. Home remedies for strep throat that can act as antibiotics are garlic, honey, olive leaf extract and tea tree oil. Such home remedies for strep throat can help in fighting infection and inflammation, but medical treatment shouldn’t be ignored. In fact, most home remedies for strep throat should be used only in addition to medical treatment with antibiotics.

Home remedies for strep throat pain, discomfort and soreness are chamomile, sage, peppermint, lavender, jasmine, rosemary and thyme. These can either be used as essences or ointments and are very efficient in reducing the pain and for relaxing the body. Peppermint and chamomile teas can relief abdominal pain, reduce nausea and can also correct internal disorders such as diarrhea.

A quick, effective, home remedy for strep throat is salty water gargle. By washing the oral cavity with salty water a few times a day you can help the body in overcoming the bacteria responsible for the infection.

When suffering from strep throat, make sure you get enough sleep. Sleep is vital for body regeneration and for maintaining a strong immune system. However, due to the discomfort and pain caused by the infection with bacteria, you might have difficulties in falling asleep. Home remedies for strep throat that have both sedative and analgesic effects are ginseng and passion flower.

Home remedies for strep throat are a very good means of speeding up the process of recovery. By following an appropriate medical treatment and a few good home remedies for strep throat, you will quickly overcome the infection and revitalize your body.

Natural Herbal Effects

In recent years the issue of Alternative Healing has skyrocketed to the forefront of the medical field. A 2004 government survey concluded that more than one third of adults use alternative medicine and healing.

However, there are over 300,000 higher plant species. A good herbalist may know of one or two thousand of them. This means that even an experienced herbalist can make mistakes. Let’s take a look at some of the most common problems.

Pregnant women should avoid barberry root bark, cascara sagrada, feverfew, juniper berries, mugwort, pennyroyal, pokeroot, rue, senna, southernwood, tansy, thuja and wormwood. All of those herbs can increased a risk for miscarriage. Safe herbs during pregnancy would be Manna, Butternut Bark or Root, Flax Seed, Slippery Elm and Lemon Verbena.

No matter what herb(s) you are taking, be mindful of anything unexpected. Stop taking whatever it is and consult an expert you can trust.

Make certain you have the correct diagnosis. Diagnosis is not easy and sometimes doctors make mistakes. Generally, however, a doctor is much better equipped to diagnose. Discuss any planned herbal discipline you plan to undertake with your physician.

Watch for any allergic reactions. Even though you may have never had any allergies in the past, if you are embarking on an herbal journey, watch carefully for any adverse reactions. If you experience difficulty in breathing within 30 minutes of trying a new herb, food or drug, call 911 immediately! You may be having an anaphylactic reaction which is the most severe form of allergic reaction. This condition can quickly become fatal unless treated promptly. This reaction is rare, but you need to be careful and be aware.

Watch for any interactions. Medicines often interact negatively with one another. So do herbs. Always be careful when taking more than one drug or herb or a combination of both. If you suspect an interaction consult your physician or pharmacist.

One interaction that you should be aware of is Antidepressants known as monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors. They interact badly with wine, cheese and many other foods. St. John’s Wort is also an MAO inhibitor so the same food restrictions apply. If you plan on using St. John’s Wort, discuss it with your physician or pharmacist.

Lastly, make certain that both your physician AND your herbalist are fully aware of all medications and/or herbal treatments you are using.

Feel Better More Quickly

Being ill and feeling run down all the time is not the best way to enhance your productivity at work and your energy at home. The reality of this situation is that many people suffer from fatigue and don’t know that there is a simple remedy for it. When your body does not receive the correct amounts of the proper nutrients, it cannot carry out its everyday functions properly. This is often caused by a lack of vital nutrients in the body.

In the meantime, you are expecting all kinds of things from your body. You might want it to deliver, but your inputs are just not creating the right outputs. Feeling lethargic, with a lack of energy and stamina is a sure sign of loss of natural nutrients in the body.

Many natural health remedies will help you fight all these issues with which your body is faced. A natural health regimen will incorporate the right eating habits, which means your body will get the right food to help you keep fatigue and lethargy at bay.

Natural health remedies come in many forms; these can be natural health products for internal and external use, natural health medicine or natural health tonics. As a consumer, you have a number of options. You should start with one product, build a regimen, and then move on to the next.

A natural health remedy can also involve using natural health products to help you keep your body as healthy as you possibly can. Natural health remedies will help you maintain wellness, not simply treat the symptoms, as is the case in most of modern American medicine.

Your body is like a car. It needs the right fuel, in the proper amounts, so that it can keep running at maximum performance. Natural health remedies will give you a helping and natural advantage in all the little everyday ailments that you are faced with. As a consumer, you have a number of options. You should start with one product, build a regimen and view the results, and then move on to the next.

In addition to using natural health remedies, you should also learn what to eat and in what proportions, so you can prevent stress and fatigue. Changing your diet will have benefits that last beyond the day or the week; changing your diet will have a lifelong impact on your energy level and productivity.

Many of the natural health remedies are praised for their fast and effective means of dealing with many of today’s ailments. Their long history is something that cannot be denied. Chinese herbal medicine has been around for centuries, and in the Western world, folk medicine is being proven by modern science to be based in fact. No longer is folk medicine viewed as an archaic tradition from the hill country of the Southern states. It is joining the mainstream of modern America because people are sick and tired of not only the cost of pharmaceuticals, but because many feel that doctors are simply “throwing” medicine at a problem instead of finding a cure.

My own experience is an example of this. After knee surgery 3 years ago, I developed serious allergies that caused me to break out in hives on a daily basis. Nothing a prominent allergist or my family doctor has done can find the reason for these daily attacks, yet they “keep me going” by prescribing huge doses of Allegra and Tagamet. Out of pocket expenses for these medications, if I did not have co-pay, would be outrageous.

This experience has caused me to become interested in natural herbal remedies and all things related to natural medicine. My quest for a cure has begun with research. I have developed a website, http://www.naturesherbalremediesonline.com , to address the issues facing people today who are seeking answers.

The website is designed to be interactive, with a form on the home page designed for the reader to ask for more information and to give suggestions for topics. I urge everyone interested in natural herbal remedies to visit today, and leave your feedback.

Natural Health Remedies for Insect Bites and Stings

Almost anywhere you reside on this planet there are small creatures, tiny insects that attack to sting or bite you, either because they see you as a threat to their very existence or as food for their survival.

Insect bite appearance is noticeable by one or more red bumps which are extremely itchy. Yes, you want to scratch it – but don’t! Easier said than done I know; problem is, scratching will exacerbate the itchiness and make it bleed.

If you have a tick, flee or a mosquito bite, they have been feeding off you; and most irksome is the thought of that nasty itchy bump left behind from a mosquito is actually full of its saliva.

Insect stings are commonly ants, bees and wasps; their sting penetrates your skin injecting poison into you.

Whilst ants and wasps will sting you several times, a bee stings once, leaving its stinger under your skin with a sac full of venom on the surface. The tendency is to panic and try to brush it off with your hand; this only serves to pump in more of the venom as will trying to remove it with your fingertips or tweezers.

Yes, it’s a bit of a shock and it hurts! Keep a cool head, slide your fingernail under the sac and scrape away the sting. You could use the edge of a, not too sharp knife, or the edge of your bank or credit card.

A bee sting or a wasp sting can cause an allergic reaction which could be fatal if not treated urgently – medical attention is required immediately!

The symptoms of allergic reaction, called anaphylaxis, are: hives, swelling in the mouth and/or throat, laboured breathing and rapid heart rate.

If you have many bites and stings, and you don’t have an allergic reaction you are not out of danger – you must seek medical attention immediately!

We’ll assume you have been stung once – the bee sting is out – with no reaction.

Here are some natural health solutions to treat insect stings:

. For a bee sting, stir a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in a glass of water until dissolved; then use a cotton wool bud to dip into the solution wetting the area, and then place it directly on the sting securing it with sticky tape.

. For a wasp sting, dip the cotton wool bud into vinegar; as with a bee sting, wet the area first, and then place it directly on the sting securing it with sticky tape.

. If you have Papaya handy, place a slice on the sting area. Papaya has enzymes that bring down inflammation and swelling.

. Garlic or onion rubbed on the sting site will do the job as well.

. Crush an aspirin, adding to water making a paste, apply to the sting to reduce the swelling. (WARNING: if you have an aspirin allergy DO NOT apply aspirin ever! And DO NOT use aspirin to treat children).

. Applying sugar works just as well to bring down the swelling

. Try rubbing on Calendula cream to reduce itching or a few drops of Lavender oil or Tea tree oil.

If you take a walks through forests, woodlands, meadows or moors, be aware that ticks attach to your skin; and as the little vampire tick bites and feeds off your blood they may infect you with Lyme disease, a bacteria called ‘Borrelia burgdorferi’ which must be treated by a doctor.

If you find a tick on your body, use tweezers as close to the skin as you can, gently pull until it free; try not to break the head or it will stay latched to your skin and cause infection.

Once the tick is free, apply an antiseptic.

What to do about those mosquito bites, flee bites and other biting insects:

. Don’t scratch

. Applying an ice cube to the bite will reduce itching

. Bites can be treated with essential oils. Apply a few drops of eucalyptus oil, clove oil or peppermint oil on a cotton wool bud

. Roll-on or spray deodorants are known to work – give it a try

. Check your toothpaste label; if it has peppermint smear it on the bite

How do you prevent these pesky parasite’s bites and stings?

Eat a couple of cloves of garlic daily before and when you go outside. Your sweat glands release the garlic smell repelling most insects.

Don’t like garlic?

You can use a repellent called Permethrin, a natural insecticidal property originally found in chrysanthemums. Permethrin is now sold in a spray can as a synthesized man-made insecticide.

Spray it on the clothes you plan to go out in and hang them to dry. Make sure they are not light, bright coloured clothes as they will only attract the little varmints!

Natural cures during cold and flu season

Five natural cures

Before continuing with this article, it must be stressed that the following is for general information only and is not intended in any way to be a substitute for professional medical advice. Always seek the advice of your physician or other qualified health professionals if you have any concerns about your health—particularly during the flue season. These natural cures may not be applicable to everyone and could be detrimental to your overall health if not discussed with your physician as to possible interaction with any prescribed medication you may be taking.

Some of the time-honored natural cures that have been used for centuries to prevent colds and flu, reduce symptoms, or shorten the duration of colds and flu are showing promising results in research studies. There are a variety of herbs, supplements, and food remedies. Listed below are five that have received favorable results.

1. Kimchi, Sauerkraut, Kefir, and Yogurt

Kimchi (pronounced kim’-chee) is a Korean spicy fermented side dish that has been getting a lot of press since the BBC published a report by scientists in Seoul, Korea who found that 11 of 13 chickens infected with the avian flu started to recover after they were fed an extract of kimchi. It is important to note that there have been no published reports of its effect on people affected with the new strain of avian flu. The key ingredient is thought to be a natural organic acid called lactic acid, that’s also found in sauerkraut, milk, yogurt, kefir (a yogurt-like effervescent beverage), meat, and beer. In
fact recent reports also show sauerkraut being used to treat chickens.

2. Elderberry

Another one of the natural cures that has attracted a lot of attention is the berry extract from elderberry (Sambucus nigra) which contains more than one compound that’s active against flu viruses. One of the many ways it works is by preventing the virus from attacking cells. A study found a 50% reduction in the severity and duration of symptoms in adults and children
after taking an elderberry extract.

Health food stores carry elderberry juice, syrup, and capsules suitable for adults and kids. Only commercially prepared elderberry products made from the berry extract should be used, because the fresh leaves, flowers, bark, young buds, unripe berries, and roots contain cyanide and can result in cyanide poisoning. This is definitely not a do it yourself natural cure that you can prepare!

3. Ginseng

The herb ginseng, used in Asia for over 2000 years, made headlines recently after a double-blind placebo-controlled study published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal found that a ginseng extract reduced the number of upper respiratory infections by 25% during a four month period. The treatment group took two 200 mg capsules of a ginseng extract every day for
four months and reported reduced symptoms, duration of infections, and infection recurrence.

Ginseng can have hormonal effects. Some studies suggest that ginseng can boost estrogen levels, so it should not be on the list of natural cures for women with breast cancer. Ginseng should also be avoided by people taking blood sugar medication or antidepressants known as MAO inhibitors, by children, people with high blood pressure, or by pregnant or nursing women.

4. Astragalus

Astragalus doesn’t come with nearly as many warnings as ginseng. The dried root of astragalus is a popular ingredient in traditional Chinese herbal formulas. It’s now used in the United States to strengthen the immune system and prevent colds and flu. Herbalists recommend it as an immune tonic for people who tend to catch colds frequently.

Preliminary research has shown astragalus can stimulate immune function in humans. It can be found in capsule form at health food stores or as a dried root in Chinese herbal shops and some health food stores. Because of its mild taste, the dried root can be added to soups. The dried root is light yellow and the size and shape of a tongue depressor. A typical daily dose is 9 to 15 g of the dried root, which equals about 3 to 4 slices. Traditionally in Asia, people took astragalus soup once a week throughout the winter. The dose is individual, and people with increased exposure or compromised immune systems may require more. Note: Herbalists do not recommend taking astragalus if you’re already sick.

5. Ginger

Another on the list of popular natural cures: A cup of hot ginger tea is not only invigorating , it is also a great cold fighter. Ginger contains compounds that have been found to be active against rhinoviruses, the most common group of cold viruses. Ginger is a diaphoretic, meaning it fights colds by gently raising body temperature and promoting perspiration.

Note: Ginger is also a blood thinner. Talk to your doctor before taking it if you are taking blood thinners.

Natural Cure by Ayurveda

Ayurveda is perhaps the oldest system of health care in the world and originates from the Indian subcontinent.

Ayurveda is based on scientific principles of diagnosis and treatment. It differs from conventional medicine in the basic principles of investigation and assigning causes to processes rather than specific areas of physiology.
Ayurveda has been a vogue since 5000 years ago. Our Vedas have been repeated references to the efficacy of Ayurveda as a science of healthy life. The western world is now realizing the value of Ayurveda in treating Chronic diseases like Arthritis, Paralysis, Stroke, Neurological disorders etc. Even WHO has given high rating for Ayurveda system.

It differs from conventional medicine in the basic principles of investigation and assigning causes to processes rather than specific areas of physiology. The increasing awareness of herbal medicines in Western markets such as USA, UK, Canada and Japan and the technological advancements in biotech industry were two major reasons which compelled us to offer a platform like this.

The key to the success of AyurvedicCure Inc is the quality of the ingredients they use, the way in which formulae are based on ancient Ayurvedic traditions, a careful manufacturing process and an ongoing research program for testing and evaluating new and old products.

Here are some Important Herbs and their Uses:

Ashwagandha ( Withania Somnifera), ( Winter Cherry): Traditionally, Ashwagandha has been used in many ways–as a sedative, a diuretic, a rejuvenating tonic, an anti-inflammatory agent, and as an “adaptogen” (endurance enhancer). Muscle Testing for Herbs

Muscle Testing based on the concept of internal energy, which is fundamental to traditional Chinese medicine. Muscle testing is a noninvasive method used to evaluate the body’s imbalances and assessing its needs.

Testing the muscles is all about testing the body’s responses when slight pressure is applied to the large muscles one at a time. This testing provides information about the body’s energy blockages, nutritional deficiencies, and food sensitivities. So, you can imagine it’s use in testing the body’s responses to herbs and herbal remedies.

When muscle testing, the person being tested is given an herb to hold or a food, if testing for an allergy. They are then asked to hold their arms out to each side away from their body. With the herb in one of their hands, the practitioner then pulls down on the person’s other arm with equal pressure for balance. If the person needs the herb or is not allergic to the food, the arm will remain strong against the pressure. If allergic or not in need of the herb, the arm will go weak and the person won’t be able to hold their arm in place against the pressure.

Muscle testing can also be used to determine how often each herb should be taken and how much each time.

Although not the same, sometimes muscle testing is referred to as Applied Kinesiology. Kinesiology is more the study of all human movement. Muscle testing is focused on the large muscles, usually but not limited to the arms.

Although muscle testing is simple, responses may be inconclusive if the person’s energy is blocked. Muscle testing requires a check of the body’s polarity, which reveals whether energy in the central meridian is flowing in the right direction. If not, it must be corrected before proceeding. Polarity checks are used with each product tested, to make sure the product does not interfere with a person’s polarity. The selected herbs are also tested as a group, because an herb may test well individually, but combining it with other herbs may produce a synergistic effect that reduces or eliminates the need for it.

As you can imagine, muscle testing is a wonderful way to help diagnose herbal remedies.

Moving Back To The Nature Through Aromatherapy Skin Care

In the mid east, there is the custom of wearing hijaab among women. It is a kind of veil that covers the entire face. Though it has taken many a connotations with time (largely controversial), the very basic purpose of it was to protect the facial skin from the sun.

Skin care, as can be seen, has been accorded wide importance at all times. In addition, it has been an ubiquitous phenomenon as no part of the world is unaffected with the concern for their skin. Skin care with herbs and plant extracts is finding growing popularity in recent years. This is termed as aromatherapy skin care.

Aromatherapy skin care is not a recent concept. Only that we were so engrossed in artificial and synthetic products that we forgot the huge resource of our nature. Artificial skin care products are easily available. This was the primary plank on which these became the order of the day. For the natural remedies for skin care, one had to visit their source, i.e. the forest. This was an impossible task for a common person. So, artificial moisturizers, artificial lotions, artificial sunscreens, and several other artificial skin care products almost enveloped the market.

It was because of constant research on the subject that people understood the adverse effects of artificial products. Now, people who are concerned about their skin and are willing to spend that extra buck for the correct remedy for their skin, have voted for natural skin care products and aromatherapy skin care.

If seen from the point of view of cost, then aromatherapy skin care will turn out to be the cheapest. If one wants then he can prepare an all-natural skin care preparation at home. Does this demand time? No! Devote your weekend to skin care (your skin truly deserves that). Many preparations last for a few days to certain weeks. So, one may keep them for use during the weekdays. This will ensure that you do not get late for office while readying your skin for the day.

Simple techniques are involved in aromatherapy skin care. While taking a bath, sprinkle two drops each of lavender, bergamot, and cedar wood. This will keep you refreshed all day. If you are feeling nervous, then use of essentials oils of geranium and basil is recommended. Similarly, there are baths aimed at relieving people of insomnia or fatigue.

If using a skin softener, look for sweet almond oil in the product. Being rich in Vitamins A, B1, B2, and B6, your skin will glow. Exposing ones skin to steam is also helpful. This helps open the pores in the skin and thus prevents skin inflammations. A cleanser too works in the same manner. It helps keep the skin clean. Always use a chemical free and soap free cleanser. One may have a vast choice from natural cleansers available in the market.

All these attempts to keep your skin healthy and glowing will go waste if you are stressed. Stress shows on your face (unless you are a master deceiver). Go for a spa and rejuvenate yourself.

Mother from Illinois Seeks Stem Cell Treatment Abroad

Michelle Brown, 30, mother of two and resident of Lincoln, Illinois who is diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, more commonly known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease has recently gone to Mexico for stem cell treatment. According to the ALS Association’s website, ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease which attacks motor neurons traveling from the brain through the spinal cord. As the motor neurons are lost, voluntary muscle movement becomes increasingly difficult to maintain.
At present, there is no proven form of treatment to cure or reverse the effects of the disease. But, there are some in the field of medicine who believe stem cell treatment can make a difference.
Brown’s first stem cell therapy Mexico treatment, completed in February, involved lamb stem cells.
Her and other patients from the U.S. have been seeking Tijuana stem cell treatment, and seeing very positive results. Brown reported after her first treatment, that though progress has been slow, and not so noticeable to others, she herself has felt improved strength in her legs, being able to roll over in bed all on her own.

The U.S. government does not currently offer funding for stem cell research, but Brown and others hope to change America’s perspectives on the controversial topic.
“The misconception about stem cell treatment is that all stem cells are embryonic, and that’s not true,” Brown said. “There are stem cells in umbilical cords and other places. I would just ask that people really research and look into stem cell treatment beyond what they hear.”

More Than Just Packaging

By aromatherapy bottles, most of us will construe the packaging for aromatherapy products. Is packaging as important to be written about? Nevertheless, the aromatherapy bottles are different and are more than just packaging. By going through the following section, you too will agree that aromatherapy bottles have a role to play.

The bottles serve two purposes. Firstly, they ensure protection of the oil or absolute. Secondly, they add a style element to the simple looking oils. First, let’s discuss the protection that bottles provide to aromatherapy products. Aromatherapy products are largely made of essential oils. Essential oils become adulterated when exposed to sun or exposed to direct air for a longer time.

Therefore, choose the bottles for storing the aromatherapy products and essential oils with care. Not any bottle will do. Particularly, clear glass bottles must be avoided when storing the oils. Clear glass bottles allow sun rays to come in and thus accelerate the process of adulteration.

This makes it important to use the aromatherapy bottles, which are cobalt blue or amber green bottles. These allow very little sun to come inside through diffusion. Therefore, one can store his/her essential oils for longer.

Are plastic bottles appropriate to keep ones aromatherapy products like essential oils, hydrosols, carrier oils, etc? This is a question that one most often comes through when purchasing aromatherapy bottles. There are two schools of thought on this. The first believes that essential oils are concentrated liquids. Hence, they can easily dissolve the plastic container. Once the plastic dissolves in the oil, it is no longer pure.

The other school of thought is of the view that plastic containers do not do any damage to the aromatherapy products. Besides, they are available cheap. Plastic jars are available in two versions in the market- single walled and double walled design. Single walled is the conventional plastic jar. The double walled plastic jar looks more stylish and protects the content from extreme temperature changes. Another advantage of this is that the cream or any other aromatherapy product can be taken out up to the last pint.

Style as we mentioned is an important part played by the aromatherapy bottles. Customers request their oils to be packed in exquisitely designed bottles. Remains of elegantly carved bottles have been unearthed from the ancient Egyptian and roman civilizations. These were used to store the precious essential oils and other products.

The discussion about aromatherapy bottles will be incomplete without talking about rubber droppers and dispensers. Do not use rubber droppers while storing essential oils. Because of the reaction with the oil, the dropper will turn into gum. There are risks of contamination of the oils through dispensers too. Use airless dispensers for best results.

More free tips on resolving your INSOMNIA problem

The inability to get to sleep at night is a HUGE problem for many people. If you fall into this category, be assured there IS hope to break out of the cycle.

Insomnia is a silent disease that drains the human resources that allow the body and mind to function normally. Lack of energy, unable to concentrate, grumpiness, prone to catching other ailments – ALL related to not being able to get regular and relaxing sleep.

Doctors are happy to prescribe pills and suggest other ‘possible’ remedies, but they are NOT solving the problem. If the truth be known, they really have no idea how to offer you permanent relief from this affliction, so they follow the basic procedure of offering temporary relief. Repeat business allows them to continue earning the dollars. It’s a sad but true story and you remain a victim of the system.

If they took the time to analyze every patient with a sleeping disorder and coordinated the data collected, they would easily be able to determine that the causes of INSOMNIA, can be directly attributable to stress, no matter what the age of the patient is. Everybody suffers from some form of stress. It’s how the stress is handled that dictates whether or not it affects the person’s sleeping patterns and to what degree.

Controlling stress levels has a positive effect in the battle against Insomnia and a number of other sleeping disorders. Finding a workable solution isn’t rocket science. Below are a few free tips you can try out and you will be amazed at just how well they work.

Breaking the cycle that is preventing you from getting to sleep is what you need to concentrate on. You need to replace the negative stressful thoughts with ones that will assist you in getting to sleep.

All of these are tried and tested by myself and have helped me over the years. They can be used individually or as a group. Some things may not break the negative cycle for you, but others will. Some are also dependant on whether or not you sleep alone.

I still find the most useful method for me, has been the ‘counting of sheep.’ Don’t laugh, it REALLY works, but not in the way you may have tried it. Most people using this method will start at one and count until oblivion. Yes, sleep is achieved, but it is as a result of boredom and therefore not a structured remedy.

To apply this tip properly and achieve quick and regular results, pick a number close to one hundred and count BACKWARDS until you reach one. The reason for doing it this way, is that you have a finishing point and, at that finishing point, you will achieve sleep. Each time you count a number, take a long deep breath. It may not work first time but it WILL work. If you reach one or you forget where you are up to, simply start again at the number close to one hundred. Doing this clears your mind of the other thoughts that are getting in the way of you getting to sleep and gives you a positive focal point for your efforts. It’s simple and VERY effective.

You can also try these to break the cycle.

As you are laying there in bed, waiting for you sleep cycle to kick in, gently start to jiggle your leg or your arm, as if you are keeping beat to your favorite tune. Put your radio on with the volume as low as possible so you can barely hear it. You straining to listen plus the jiggling will create its own sleep cycle and you will find yourself easily drifting off into slumber land. This method isn’t compatible if you have a sleeping partner. You may have to find a single bed to test this out. A small price to pay to be able to sleep, don’t you think?

Naturally, there are other ‘factors’ that affect whether or not you are able to achieve regular and relaxing sleeping patterns. These are outside influences that you don’t have any control over, like noise and annoying light, etc. Ideally, your sleeping environment should be dark, quiet and a place where you can feel safe and relaxed. Once you have ‘mastered’ and are in control of these simple tips, you will find that you will be able to adapt to any environment quite easily because you will KNOW that you are able to sleep when you want to.

It is timely to mention one more tip that took me a long time to discover. This definitely had a negative effect on any method I tried. I discovered that your body has a better chance of relaxing and therefore give you a better chance of getting to sleep if it isn’t too hot. I used to go to bed with socks on because my feet were always cold. Wearing socks to bed is a DEFINITE NO – NO! They tend to overheat your whole body and disturb any sleep patterns you may develop. The use of electric blankets has a similar bad effect. You have a much better chance sleeping when your body is cooler and NOT hotter.

I had stress related problems that affected my ability to sleep and I solved the problem. You can as well!

The tips detailed above, coupled with my simple 5 minute – 9 step technique, have successfully helped me achieve regular and relaxing sleeping patterns for over 27 years. I sincerely hope that sharing these tips with you will help you achieve at least some relief from your problem and establish my credibility with you.

Don’t you think it is time to stop repeatedly paying Doctors for partial solutions when they really don’t know how to help you? Isn’t it a better proposition to follow the successful working techniques of someone who has traveled the road you are now on?

Modern magnetic therapy

Magnetic therapy is a form of therapy that has been used for many years for a variety of different purposes, including pain relief, prevention of aging and the relief of a range of symptoms from a range of ailments. The problems that the therapy helped to alleviate are still present in the modern world, therefore it is logical that the method used to ease these problems before can still be used today. There are many products available today which can perform this magnetic therapy. Each group of products has a different design and can help with diverse problems, normally in the area around the place where the product is worn. Magnetic therapy has general benefits that most products will provide you with in addition to the specialized benefits that are received from the therapy.

The general benefits of magnetic therapy include enlarging the blood vessels, thereby increasing the rate of circulation within your body; this in turn helps to increase the level of oxygen in your blood and also helps to flush out toxins that have accumulated. These are believed to be the root causes of the general pain relief that can occur once you start using these products.

There are many categories of products which can perform the magnetic therapy, including magnetic jewelry and magnetic wraps, magnetic car seats and magnetic insoles, pulsed magnets as well as magnets for water and magnets for health and beauty. Within these general groupings are many smaller groups of products which are normally grouped by what the product is and whereabouts on the body it is placed. Examples of this are back wraps within the magnetic wrap category and necklaces within the magnetic jewelry category.

The area of you body that you place your magnetic therapy device on will be more strongly affected; the closer the magnetic product is to it. If you wish to relieve pain in the ankle then two of the most appropriate options for you are an anklet or a magnetic ankle wrap. These can relieve numbness of the lower leg and can relieve pain in the joints by keeping the joints dry in addition to relieving pain.

Magnetic therapy can also be used for cosmetic purposes since it can dilate the blood vessels, toxins are flushed away and if the magnet used is a facial magnet, for instance a magnetic facial mask, then toxins can be flushed away from the facial area and, due to the fact that toxins cause wrinkles, the therapy can leave you looking younger and have a face which feels refreshed and rejuvenated.

The magnets you use should be chosen with care and consideration of what functions you need the magnetic therapy products you buy to perform. The magnet you buy should perform the functions you need and preferably a little extra, but ensure that you are buying an appropriate product because while a magnetic necklace can benefit you greatly, it will not aid a pain in your ankle as well as an anklet or ankle wrap. Above all, relax and enjoy the benefits of the magnetic therapy flowing through your body.

Migraine Headaches

Headaches are comprised of two major categories, primary and secondary. Headaches belonging to the primary group are not caused by underlying medical conditions while secondary headaches are the result of a medical condition such as trauma, infection or possibly even a brain tumor. Most headaches belong in the primary category.

The primary category headaches include migraine headaches and tension headaches. These two headache types are the most common of all headaches with tension-type headaches being the most common. Tension headaches constitute about 75% of all headaches while migraine headaches affect as many as 30 or 40 million Americans, or approximately 10% or more of the American population.

Migraine headaches can become chronic in nature, but are typically experienced at most once or twice a week, not daily. Females experience the pain of migraines about 3 times as often as males, or about 75% of the time. Migraine headaches can be severe and disabling. They can be accompanied by nausea, vomiting and a sensitivity to light. About 20% of migraine patients will experience an aura. An aura is a disturbance in vision that consists of brightly colored blinking lights that move across a person’s field of vision.

There are many types of treatment methods that are available to migraine sufferers, both natural and unnatural. The most common method of treatment are pain relievers that are bought without a prescription, or over-the-counter. Non-prescription drugs can include aspirin, Tylenol (acetaminophen), Motrin (ibuprofen), or a combination of acetaminophen and aspirin. These are the most commonly purchased types of non-prescription pain relievers. Migraine headache patients experiencing more severe pain may need prescription medicine.

There are also many types of natural treatment methods that don’t involve the use of non-prescription or prescription medications. These methods of treatment can often relieve migraine headache symptoms and are increasingly gaining popularity in today’s society as people are becoming more educated on the potentially dangerous side effects of drugs. One of these natural treatment methods is putting an ice pack on the back of the neck at the base of the skull. When using an ice pack there should be a barrier between the ice pack and the skin such as a wetted cloth or t-shirt that has had the water squeezed out of it. Ice therapy can lessen the flow of blood to the head resulting in less pressure in the head. It can often help relieve the throbbing pain of a migraine headache by decreasing the flow of blood to the head. It is often beneficial for a person to put their feet in a container of warm water at the same time. This can have the effect of attracting the blood to the feet instead of to the head.

Migraine headaches can sometimes be caused by foods and can be prevented by eliminating these food triggers. Foods that can trigger migraine headaches include, but are not limited to, caffeine, chocolate, alcohol, MSG (monosodium glutamate), nuts, cheese, beans, onions and others. Eliminating the trigger may eliminate the migraines.

Another natural treatment method for migraine headaches is simply to reduce stress by relaxing. Many migraines are caused by stress, so eliminating the stress can relieve the pain. Relieving stress can sometimes be achieved by getting plenty of sleep, lying down in a dark quiet room, or a combination of lying down in a dark quiet room with a small ice pack positioned on the neck at the base of the skull as explained above.

This article is a general overview with regard to natural migraine headache treatment methods and may not apply to everyone. As always it is a good idea to seek the help of a professional before treating yourself for a potentially serious health condition.

Mercury Detoxification

An interesting area of alternative medicine that is advancing rapidly is mercury detox treatment. Mercury is toxic to humans. We can be exposed to mercury in a number of ways, including the silver fillings in our teeth, ammunition, artificial flowers and wood preservatives.

High concentrations of mercury in the body have been shown to have many negative effects, including a deterioration of the central nervous system, dementia, depression and tremors. Mercury is absorbed into both the connective tissues and the nervous system, making its effects even more disastrous. By restricting the individual cells’ respiration enzymes, mercury keeps your cells from using oxygen. It can cause heart disease and suppress your immune system. Cleansing your body of mercury is the answer.

Mercury detoxification is the process by which mercury is eliminated from the body. The process is lengthy, often taking three to six months. The most common method for eliminating mercury is chelation therapy. Chelation therapy is introducing a binding agent into the body that grabs onto the mercury and causes it to be excreted with the body’s waste products. Both intravenous and oral chelation methods exist. The intravenous method is more costly and inconvenient, making the oral method the most popular.

While the intravenous method administers compounds directly into the blood stream, oral chelators can be purchased and administered to reduce mercury levels in the body. These will often contain a type of algea and cilantro, natural chelators, known for their ability to bind mercury, and other supplements to assist the body in eliminating mercury.

If you suspect that you have mercury in your body, be sure to check with a health professional on how best to eliminate the chemical from your body. Once you eliminate the mercury from your body, you can expect to feel improved brain power and concentration, increased energy and rejuvenated!

Meditation

Researchers ar beginning to unfold the secrets to speculation –an ancient practice that yields modern-day benefits. In the highlands of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, citizenry looking at liveliness differently. Upon entering the local Buddhist monastery, there is a spectacular sculpture the size of a large oak. The intricate carving of clouds and patterns painted in powerful colors. But as soon as winter gives means, this magnificent employment volition melt to nonentity.

The sculpture, in fact, is made of butter, and it is 1 of the highland multitude’s symbols of the transient nature of spirit. And sprightliness here is not easy. Villagers bicycle to oeuvre before dawn and return home hanker after sunset. Many live with nil More than dirt floors and rickety outhouses.

Upon entering these modest mud-brick homes, you’ll find no tables or chairs–just a yearn platform bed, which sleeps a family of eight. However, once the masses invite you in for tea, their smiles wide and welcoming. How do they possess such inner calm in conditions we would call less than ideal. Once villagers cook, sew or plow the fields they do so in a tranquil state. As an approach to living, weaving seamlessly into almost every action throughout the day seems unfamiliar to Western cultures.

Is there something we tin glean from this agency of biography that testament improve our have. The romantic notion of quitting everything and joining Tibetan monks on a mountaintop is not the only path to meditate. Massage Your Head The Indian Way

Massage, a revered form of healing is in practice since decades. Touch which is a vitally important to human well being takes the form of skilled and sensitive massage. Beside relaxing and revitalizing an ailing or tired body, it communicates warmth, reassurance and a sense of self worth. Massage is an ideal way to ease anxiety, worries and soothe tight muscles resulting from tension and stress. There are many kinds, variations, styles and sequences of massage, influenced by local traditions, used in different parts of the world.

Indian head massage is one of the most popular forms of head massage also known as “Champissage” is characterized by a sequence of massage movements.

Originated over thousands of years ago in India, Indian head massage, traditionally began as family grooming with mothers massaging their daughter’s hair with oils for long lustrous locks.

Over a period of time, Indian head massage has included massage of the neck, shoulder and face with a blend of shiatsu and acupressure to relax tense areas, rebalance the energy and clear any concentrated areas of negativity.

Since there are several acupressure points on the head, a Champissage is felt throughout the entire body. The massage may be dry or oils may be used. The advantage of using oils for massage is that besides nourishing the hair, it calms the nervous system, as the roots of one’s hair are connected to nerve fibres.

Indian head massage is beneficial to those who are affected by mental and emotional stress. It helps to improve circulation in head, enhance the senses, improve memory and promote clear thinking.

If you’re suffering from headaches, migraines, insomnia, vertigo and depression, Champissage will work wonders. Air conditioning, artificial lightening, slouching in front of the PC, etc often cause stress in the neck and shoulder region. Massaging the neck and shoulder areas in addition to the head massage will bring relief from stress.

Reduces hair loss, premature balding & graying, improves eyesight and concentration due to massage of the temples, eyebrows and forehead. People with chronic spinal disorders such as osteoporosis and arthritis require a more gentle massage. The pressure should be applied according to the need of the individual.

Massage Therapy Basics

What is massage therapy?
Massage therapy is a manipulation of muscles, ligaments, tendons, skin, fascia, and joints in the body. It is a practice that has been around since the beginning of peopledom. In fact, ancient techniques are still employed in today’s modern world.

The benefits of massage are extensive. Not only can it help alleviate pain and aid in physical maladies and day-to-day functioning, but it impacts mental and emotional wellbeing. Relaxation, awareness, anxiety, and depression can all be aided and eased with massage therapy.

Massage boosts the immune system, relaxes and reduces anxiety, alleviates pain, reduces blood pressure and heart rate, stimulates lesser used muscles, increases endorphins, aids physical rehabilitation, and improves circulation (blood and lymph).

There are many different techniques and therapies in the field of massage. Some of these may be familiar to you already, even if you do not know specifically what they entail.

Swedish: Probably the most well known technique, and for good reason; it’s quite popular.

Acupressure is like acupuncture without the needles. Specific points are targeted and pressure applied to create a therapeutic effect.

Aroma Therapy is often used in tandem with other techniques. It consists of using fragrant oils for healing benefits. These oils can be applied to the skin or simply allowed to perfume the air thus allowing those nearby to receive benefits nasally.

Canadian Deep Tissue Massage: A technique that focuses on a muscle group working with the fibers of the muscle tissue to rejuvenate each level of muscle including deep tissue.

Deep Tissue Massage works to invigorate and stimulate the muscle issue on a deep level. It involves more intense manipulation and can provide tremendous benefits on many levels. Not only does it help release toxins from the body, it helps

Hot Stone Massage: Warm stones are used on the body with gentle pressure to provide a soothing, therapeutic sensation.
Infant Massage: Becoming more popular everyday, infant massage has been proven to help infants gain weight and speed development. It is taught to mothers as a way to bond with their new children.

Other techniques include Chi Nei Tsang, Reflexology, Shiatsu,Thai Massage, Amma Therapy, Alexander Technique, Aston Patterning, Bioenergetics, Bowen Technique, and Craniosacral Therapy.

Massage therapists are required to pass standardized tests in order to receive a license and become a registered massage therapist. Training is often completed at a trade, vocational, or career college and is usually completed in 2 years or less depending on the school and the program.

Massage therapy is considered a health field and massage therapy is often covered under many health plans because of its proven healing and beneficial results.

Massage is private and safe. Depending on the type of massage you receive, partial body, full body, 30 minute or longer, you may have to undress completely or not at all. The room should be warm and comfortable and there may be light music playing. If the environment makes you uneasy, do not hesitate to inform your therapist; a massage should be a relaxing and pleasant experience. This is true if you feel pain during any part of your massage experience. Some techniques are more intensive and may be a bit uncomfortable at times, but if you feel anything that makes you uneasy, do not hesitate to speak up.

Whether you are considering a career in massage therapy or if you are just interested in finding out more information about what it is and how it can benefit you cannot deny the value of a good massage.

Beyond Touch

Massage therapy is a type of therapy that incorporates the use of massage in helping to heal the body in one form or another. In many cases, the simple applying of pressure to certain areas of the body will relieve aching muscles and help the individual to relax. It can help to minimize stress as well as to improve the overall health in many areas of the body. This type of therapy is one that is enjoyable and can be a treat for a person or can be part of their normal exercise regime.

In massage, there are several areas of the body that are targeted including the muscles, the joints, the tendons, the ligaments, and connective tissues. By applying massage techniques to these various parts of the body, a therapist can help heal injuries, help minimize pain and manage pain and it can help relieve stress that is often psychologically displayed. Massage therapy is also an avenue to improve circulation in the body as well as to relieve tension within the various parts of the body. It can be applied to the entire body or just to a specific area of it depending on the patient’s needs.

For those looking to become a massage therapist, they will need to go to a schooling process. They will study such basic things as the formation of the body, the location of muscles and the understanding of how the body works. From here, the student will learn to apply the massage in order to treat any of the needs that the patient may have. There are a number of other methods that can be used as well. For example, students will learn about hydrotherapy in which a level of massage therapy is applied with the use of water.

Manage High Blood Pressure Naturally

In Chinese Medicine, many of the symptoms of high blood pressure, such as pounding headaches, dizziness, and pressure behind the eyes are often related to a pattern of Liver Yang Rising or Liver Heat. It is important to see a physician for proper diagnosis and supervision of high blood pressure, but acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine may also be useful for managing your condition. Certain herbs have been shown to have an anti-hypertensive effect. Certain other herbs have been shown to be useful for controlling cholesterol levels and improving cardiovascular function. Acupuncture has been shown to have a general relaxing effect which can be useful in stress related or essential hypertension. In addition, certain points are commonly used in the treatment of patterns that relate to high blood pressure.

One commonly used herb for symptoms and patterns related to high blood pressure is Tian Ma or gastrodia rhizome. Research in China has shown it to be useful in the treatment of symptoms related to high blood pressure such as dizziness, numbness of extremities, tinnitus, headaches, and pain behind the eyes. It may have a sedative and tranquillizing effect. It has been shown to have usefulness for renal hypertension and essential hypertension. Another useful herb is Ye Ju Hua or chrysanthemum flower, which has been shown to have a prolonged effect of lowering blood pressure through peripheral vessel dilation. It has also been shown to increase blood flow to the heart. Another herb that is used to clear Liver Heat and is commonly used to treat eye problems that may be beneficial for high blood pressure is Xia Ku Cao or prunella. Chinese research has shown that it has a moderate vasodilating effect. These herbs are often used in combination by practitioners of Oriental Medicine in the treatment of patterns related to high blood pressure.

Other herbs may be useful for improving heart and circulatory function. They may also help reduce cholesterol. Shan Zha, or hawthorn berries, have been shown to reduce cholesterol when taken for six weeks or more. It is often used in China to improve circulation and to treat angina pectoris. Another herb that is commonly used in China for cardiovascular problems is Dan Shen, or Salvia. It has also been shown to reduce cholesterol. It also may improve microcirculation in the body. In China, pills of Dan Shen are used in the treatment of angina and in the treatment of coronary heart disease. It also may help promote repair and regeneration of tissues by increasing the body’s metabolism.

Certain acupuncture points are also known to be useful in the treatment of patterns related to high blood pressure. Large Intestine 4 is a point that many people know can help to control headaches. It is on the back side of the hand in between the thumb and index finger. It is also commonly used point for blood pressure related patterns. Another point at the vertex of the head, Du 20, is also commonly used. An acupuncturist or Chinese herbalist always takes an inventory of symptoms, along with looking at a person’s tongue and feeling a person’s pulse in order to determine the specific combination of points and herbs that a person needs. Different people with high blood pressure are treated differently depending on the pattern they present.

During my time in China, I did clinical rounds in the cardiology department at the Chengdu Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital. Modern drugs and diagnostic equipment were used hand in hand with Chinese herbs and acupuncture in order to treat conditions such as high blood pressure, angina pectoris, cardiac arrhythmias, heart enlargement, and stroke. I even saw Chinese herbs, such as Dan Shen, being given in intravenous and in injectable form. The conditions were diagnosed using modern science and traditional Chinese diagnosis. Drugs were used for symptom control and for emergencies. As people’s condition improved with the use of Chinese herbs and acupuncture, their doctors slowly adjusted the dosage of drugs that they received. The results I saw were better than either form of medicine could have achieved alone. We do not have the benefit of experiencing such a deep synthesis of modern medicine and ancient techniques yet in the West. Nevertheless, I believe that as people learn more about the benefits of Asian medicine, we may someday come close to achieving a more integrated system of care in the West that will be more clinically effective, more cost effective, and result in fewer side effects.

Magnetic Therapy for Pain Relief

Although mainstream science has yet to recognize magnet therapy as an effective branch of alternative medicine, an increasingly large number of people are beginning to use it as a supplementary treatment for a variety of health-related conditions. Personal testimonials as to the positive effects of magnet therapy are plenty, attesting to the general satisfaction of its practitioners. Those opposed to magnet therapy often argue that positive results are merely a product of the placebo effect – but to that we say, who cares? If the purpose of a therapy is to relieve the sensation of pain, and the therapy achieves that purpose successfully, then the therapy – placebo or not – is an effective one.

The goal of this article is not to argue the effectiveness of magnet therapy, for that is another matter in itself. Rather, we would like to provide you with an overview of some of the more common uses of magnet therapy, focusing on the use of magnets as a supplementary treatment for pain.

Do note: when we say supplementary, we mean just that. Magnet therapy should not be viewed as a substitute for regular visits to the doctor, recommended surgeries or medications, etc. It is generally in conjunction with conventional treatments that magnet therapy can be at its most effective.

Modern magnet therapy products come in all shapes and sizes, and are made of a variety of materials. Magnetic jewelry is an especially popular accessory, as it affords the wearer a fashionable and discreet means of using magnet therapy. Other magnet therapy products include back and joint supports and magnetic bandages, which are designed to offer more concentrated treatments for pain and discomfort in specific parts of the body; magnetic insoles for shoes; magnetic seat and mattress pads; and a wide variety of other products out there on the market.

Magnet therapy in its various forms has been claimed to produce positive pain relieving effects in the treatment of a great number of conditions, including back and neck pain, arthritis, muscle soreness, carpal tunnel syndrome – and the list goes on and on. NY Times best selling author Gary Null’s Healing with Magnets (1998) contains an extensive review of the various uses of magnet therapy for pain relief and other positive health benefits.

Some people are so firmly convinced by the effectiveness of magnet therapy that they choose it as an alternative to over-the-counter painkillers. One of the advantages of using magnet therapy as an alternative to painkillers is that there appear to be no inherent risks associated with magnet therapy other than the possibility of it being ineffective. Meanwhile, painkillers sometimes have side effects that can result in serious health problems for users. The effectiveness of painkillers is also debatable, as over-the-counter medications are limited in their effectiveness to begin with. Furthermore, users can build up tolerances to drugs they take frequently, rendering them even less effective for pain relief.

To conclude, we state again that magnet therapy is not a proven avenue of medical treatment, but that for many people it does act as an effective supplementary treatment for pain and discomfort. The best way to test it is to try it out for yourself. Magnet therapy products tend to be relatively inexpensive – so get yourself a bracelet and see what you think. If it isn’t doing anything for you, then at least you’ve got a nice new addition to your jewelry collection!

Magnetic Mattress Pads

Imagine being able to have physical therapy whenever you want, even when you’re asleep? This is possible and not just for those people who have large amounts of money. This is possible if you have a magnetic mattress pad. These pads are new innovations that will provide you with the magnetic therapy that will benefit you in so many ways. These mattress pads will lie on top of your mattress and never need to be charged and they don’t ever need maintenance.

You may ask how something that doesn’t require you to do a lot of upkeep work can give you so many benefits and how these mattress pads can be distributed for such reasonable prices when they are so beneficial. These magnetic mattress pads provide you with high quality magnetic therapy while you are lying on them. This means that while you are sleeping on it each night the mattress pad is helping to alleviate the pain associated with certain diseases.

The pad is filled with powerful magnets set out in a pattern that has been determined to provide you with the utmost magnetic therapy. These magnets are covered with damask as well as a layer of foam to ensure that you do not have your night’s sleep interrupted by the pain of sleeping on hard magnets. The magnets are orientated towards bio-north and are of a powerful enough gauss to positively affect the delicate bio-environment that is your body.

The magnetic therapy that you magnetic mattress pads provide will benefit you by helping to raise the speed of blood circulation and raising the level of oxygen in the blood. This is believed to help slow the aging since it is caused by the process of oxidization. The mattress pads are also believed to help arthritis by preventing the built up of calcium deposits.

The magnetic therapy helps with pain relief because when the rate of blood circulation rises it can become more effective in flushing away the toxins in your body that are causing the pain you are experiencing. An additional benefit is that because the toxins are being flushed away more effectively the level of your health can gradually increase as your body eliminates the toxins from your body. You body can then begin to function at closer to optimal level since it is not concentrating on eliminating the constant build up of toxins in your blood stream and else where in your body.

The increase in oxygen levels in your blood can give you more energy as the more oxygenated is distributed to the tissues and muscles in your body. This can lead to enhanced mental performance and awareness as well as increased physical performance by the increasing of your energy levels. Sleeping on magnetic mattress pads can help you to get a deep, refreshing night’s sleep every night and can help you to wake up in the morning feeling energized and healthy.
